Basic 5.3 rebuild questions.
I picked up a 44K mile, 5.3 LM7 that’s going in a 72 Monte carlo. The motor is complete top to bottom front to back. This plan is two stage. First I want to get the motor in and running N/A. Sometime down the road I’m going to build a single turbo system and put around 10 psi into it.
This build is on a budget but I am going to go through the motor and freshen it up. The good news is the cross hatch is still on the bores and there is no ridge so it looks like the motor was well cared for so no machine work is planned.
While the motor is apart the plan is to swap in an 04 Z06 cam, springs and lifters that I already have. These parts have approx 14K miles on them and look perfect. I’m also planning to replace the stock push rods, oil pump and timing chain. I will most likely replace the main and rod bearings with new parts as well.
Is there anything I’m missing?
