Default Top End rebuild questions

I snapped a push rod so its time for top end rebuild. I am thinking I will go with LS6 heads, does anyone have any advise or suggestions when I am looking at used LS6 heads? or other suggestions for the build, i am trying to stick to a budget since this is my second camaro.. my other Camaro is a 2010Camaro SS i bought new. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I would say make sure the heads you are looking at are either a 243 or 799 casting. Those are the only two casting numbers that have been assigned to LS6 heads.

If buying used heads they should be clean up milled for flatness, valves should be lapped to check for sealing, and seals should be replaced

I have ran heads bought off this site and not done anything but cleaned them up a bit...the sellers trader rating is often a good indicator of the quality of stuff their selling unless they got good pictures...I would prob change the valve seals for as cheap as they are...
Also check the heads with a straight edge, an mls head gasket will usually compensate for out of flat condition unless it's real bad, you also wanna check the valve seats for pitting, usually exhaust are worse than intake
Also wouldn't be a bad idea to get some low mile springs if the heads have a lot of miles...good luck man

I forgot to add but u can check the valve seats by filling combustion chambers with gas and see if any leak down..

Thanks for the advice, this is my first build and i am trying to get as much information as possible. I am not looking for huge HP gains but i want to be confident when i step on it, it won't break

No doubt that is the most important thing...when inspecting/prepping parts be super ****! The littlest thing could come back to bite you...that being said these LS motors are very easy to work on if you treat them right...common sense and a little planning will go a long way to getting a good setup
