How to find out what cam I have in my car
#2
I am not aware of any way to check specs on the cam... the only way would be for the guy to remember what cam he put in... to my knowledge there is not a camshaft spec finding machine! lol

When you degree a camshaft, you will know the duration and lift. You'll have to get a degree wheel and a dial indicator that will fit the lifter bore. I've never done it on and LS engine, but I have on an older 350. I imagine it would be a pain in the *** with the engine in the car. But you can figure out every spec this way.

Although you have to remove the camshaft from the engine and send it off to someone who can do that.

It's actually on the other end of the cam in my car. When I put in a new rear main I saw the cam specs were exactly what I was told they were. Either way it's not easy to find out...you couldn't call the person you bought the car from and find out?

I think this would be tough to do short of pulling the cam out and trying to find a serial number to reference it with. We get all of our cams from comp cams and they have a serial number ground into the back of the cam that we can reference with them to get cam specs. You could also take it out and get it cam doctored if you can find someone that does that.

you might take a valve cover off and stick an indicator on #1 intake and #1 exhaust and see what lift you get. maybe you can find a cam that's close. Best you can do without taking the cam out and that's not worth the trouble.
