Default Crank or heads first
I am gonna put my heads on and on the ls1howto site it says to put the crank on first. Is that true or needed? Also someone told me I should have engine at TDC when I put on the crank, is that true?

You mean the crank pulley? I put heads on first...Then timing cover then crank pulley...

You wanna have the the heads on first so you can turn the motor over with the front cover off to see where tdc for #1 cylinder to tighten the rockers in sequence...

Doesnt matter either way, the crank pulley is not keyed and has no timing marks so you can do either first.
