Finaly Grand Am Cup Cam In And Running
We worked all weakend finishing assembly and instal. At 4am today on a old hot cam tune life became of the 347. We tried a mass air that I had bought on ebay, but the car would cut out at 4000. Finaly after figuring out the problem, we instaled the 48# injectors (mind you no change in tuneing yet) the car took off and was ready to be broke in. 30 miles later here comes a turbo charged RX7, was a bad day for him whos tags read FEARED. Car pulls fiercely all the way to my 7000rpm rev limit, soon to 8000rpm. Will try to post a sound clip and dyno numbers as soon as we get it tune. Special thanks to hioSSilver and are engine building fool Chris Fletcher. In the 70 miles we inhaled a half a tank of fuel. I would recomend this H/C pacage to serious GM enthusiusts great performance for no additional tuneing, was unreal that it took the injectors right off the bat. More info later, will keep posting as changes come.
sound clip is here, just copy and paste in your browser

Wow! Awesome results and thanks very much for sharing. I'm waiting on the ASA to show up and am debating whether I want to wait to install it after I get new heads.
Kudos to you!
Would love a sound and/or video clip if you get the opportunity.
Dan - still waffling on the 30#/42# injectors decision

No expensive intakes for me, just an ls6 one. My home ported heads and ls1 intake made power to 6600rpm. Now I have the 60cc ls6cnc gmpp heads. Will try to get some video up for you guys.(my little hot cam made the power the first time to 6600rpm tuning by f-body central) GM has some good H/C packages with lots of RnD. Now its the grand am cam 239/251 .570 on installed at 107.

I'd be curious to see if the lifters live long at 8000 RPM. I'd also strap that thing down on a dyno before doing many spins that high. Gotta watch out for valve float and other 'bad things'.
Personally, I wouldn't feel comfortable spinning a hydraulic lifter valvetrain that high. Heck, I don't even spin my solid roller valvetrain that high (with 3/8" pushrods, T&D shaft rockers, custom springs w/ Super 7 locks, etc).
That, and you need to tweak the PCM injector constant for those injectors - or you could wash out your cylinders. That would be... bad.
Good luck! Post up some dyno graphs when you get 'em.

My digital camera takes a sound/video deal, trying to figure it out. Maybe tommorow I'll post one. Just got the car home and the neighborhood wouldn't like me tonight:-)

I thought the stock PCM could not control fuel and spark past 7K and if you wanted to go above that you had to have some type of piggy back system like a F.A.S.T. to control things above the 7K RPM range. I would like to know if this is true or not because my next motor build up will be a solid roller, HIGH comp, 347 that I want to be turning into the 7500+ range and I was planning on using a piggy back system to the PCM.

Hey quick question about this, shouldn't you be worried about your springs? As in, don't they reach some natural frequency and begin to float?
Not too sure about this though. Can someone clarify?

Congrats Man!!! I have the same cam with the LPE/SCCA heads. Took me forever- 6 months- to get it to idle. How did you get it to idle???
BTW -I believe the GA cam is spun routinely to 7500 RPM in the Grand Am series.

We set the idle too 1000 rpm with the set screw and it has a 1/4 " hole in the throttle body ( that was for the previosally used hot cam) and wal'la. If you tell anyone either lazerlemon or I will kill you!

So that's all I had to do??
