Default Wrong waterpump?

Finishing up h/c swap. I ordered a new waterpump from GMPartsDirect.com a while ago, because a) mine has 46k miles on it, and b) I overtorqued the bolts putting the new thermostat on and didnt feel like messing with getting them out. Well here I am almost done with the swap and I went to put the new powerstat on the new waterpump and it wont go in. The bore for the stat on the original is about 2.1" and on the new one its about 1.9". The powerstat goes in the original just fine too big for the new one, wtf!
additionally the original stat has an extra eye (for something, can't think of what right now) in addition to the two bolt holes. The stat that came with the new does not. Damn, I was soooooooooooooo close to getting this done!
Anyone know whats up with this? Is it the wrong waterpump, or is it a newly spec'd replacement? Any info appreciated thanks... Guess I'll call gmpd first thing in the am also.

Default Good Luck

I ad my engine replaced and it came back with the same water pump you have. Mine has two piece thermostat the stat is seperate from housing. Nobody seems to now squat about it. Must be new design your the only person that seems to have come across same pump. If find any info please let me know.
Thanks, Tony

Reference the part # on the pump to your old one. Should be the same.

Looks like the original pump # 12458934 has changed to #88894345. They must have done a little redesigning with the # change also.

The 04 vette waterpumps have been redesigned. Sounds like you got one of those.
