I am very interested in the El toro cam grind and would like to get an opinion on its use in my Sandrail. Car is about 2500 pounds and has a stout transaxle with 4.86 ring and pinion but spins 33" paddle tires. with a ratio in the gears of 1st 2.91, 2nd 1.93, 3rd 1.50, 4th 1.10. Yah its way different than a street car but does about 110 mph at 6k rpm over open dezert.
I currently have a ls1 5.7 crate motor that was completed in 2004. I believe it has a hot cam in it and for sure has an ls6 intake with stock ls1 TB. I have recently acquired a set of ls6 heads that are cnc ported and polished with stainless valves and good springs specking out at 65cc after a good 5 angle valve job. I also have a fast lsxr102 intake and 102 Tb that I plan on adding during the cam swap. I will be doing other things like timing chain and oilpump upgrades and new ls7 lifters also. OH ya some ARP headstuds and rod bolts also.
With all these things added will the ElToro cam be a good choice? My other considerations are the Gm showroom stock cam or a TSP228r.
Im looking for good strong torque and bottom end that will also pull up to the safe rev limit (6000). The car may also get a progressive NOS shot of 100 just because i have it available.
Current dyno puts out 298 hp and 291 tq @5700rpm
Thank you for any input

I would think it would be a great choice. I have it and have often considered doing the same 370 build as I have in my T/A for a custom 4x4 build. My car has great low end, "torque on tap" lol. It pulls hard, easily up to 6500+ rpms. Most of the power is under the curve with it. It is a cam that does not have to be spun hard to perform.

Usable power and torque are the main goals. All about powering out of corners, racing up hills, wheelies. Snappy throttle response and torque on demand is what I like. Reliability is key also. I don't need max power at just the top end of the top end of the scale just good all over gains

10.8 should be the comp.
Flow data intake is going to be a fast 102 and 102 TB
Heads basically a stage 2 ls6 head with 2.02 and 1.60 stainless valves and a good valve job. Don't have any real #s.
