Default Cylinder bore / Ring issue

Alright guys so I started to assemble my motor once I got the block back from the machine shop and I go to gap my rings and I put them in and I'm getting a .025 and a .027 ring gap and I haven't filed them at all yet. So it appears that my cylinders were honed a bit too much. I told the machine shop to just clean up the cylinders with a light hone cause I plan on using stock pistons but apparently that didn't happen lol. So my question is what do I do. Does this "force" me to hone it out a little more and do a 3.905 piston? I was going to go n/a but now if I have tobuy pistons I'm going forged and going from there. I'm going to spit ball and assume that using a 3.905 piston ring on a stock sized piston and filing it down to the correct gap is a no no lol. This set me back quite a bit any help would be appreciated thanks

First measure all your bores correctly.

I'll measure once I get home. Its obvious there too big just wondering how big is too big for stock pistons lol

specs are .0008- .0015 piston to wall if a stock piston, if you plan on a power adder I would stay around .002 PW.
how far are you putting the ring in the hole, I normally use a piston turn it upside down and push it in tell the skirt is level with the top of the block, they recommend around 1inch down in the block for proper gauging but if the cylinders are wore at all it will be tighter towards the bottom, stock ring gap is around .015-.018

The top comp ring end gap is .010"- .016" 2nd comp ring is .017"- .025" this is for the 1999-2002 4.8 -5.3L I believe the LS1 to be close or the same .

I'll double check again tomorrow. I pushed it in around an inch and a half into the cylinders. Once I put the ring into the cylinder I get around .023-.024 on the top ring and around .025-.027. I can get more exact gap measurements later was too unhappy to get an exact measurement. I'll check the cylinder bore and piston diameter tomorrow but I have a feeling I'll be tearing what little of my short block that's together back apart for a hone to 3.905..but then Im honking turbo? Lol thanks for any input guys

These gaps will work with no problems. A nitrous or supper charged and gaps run right around these same specs.

So all my bores are around 3.899-3.8995. except #2 which was around 3.904-3.905. and my ring gaps are pretty wide between the 4 cylinders i did.

#1-.019 top .023 second
#2-.025 top (roughly i only did the top ring)
#3- .020 top .024 second
#4- .024 top .030 second

Got fustrated....seems like im going to have to hone the cylinders to 3.905 bore and get new pistons...

Why don't you just by some file to fit rings? you should be able to find a size that will barely fit in the bore and then you can file them to what ever gap you want. your #1 ,#3 is fine. I usually set up a N/A street motor at .018" top, .021" second. Also in defense of your machine shop sometime they have to go a tiny bit larger on the hone to get all the cylinders a uniform cylinder. If it makes you feel any better I have burned through two sets of rings (at over $100 per/set) just to have to buy a third set to get it correct. Live and learn only way, pay to play

I thought these rings were file to fit. That's why i beleive theres an issue lol. right out of the box there big. 1 and 3 are fine i agree but the amount of difference between the cylinders I'm unsure. I was hoping around .020 for the top ring and .025 or so for the second. I'm thinking of spraying a 150 shot. Just worried the bores are just a shy too big.
