Default So the tech that installed my heads stripped a center bolt for my valve covers!!!!

I have been trying to hunt down some oil leaks on my new motor all along the guy that initially did the work is MIA. Anyways this is clearly my issue. I have a set of PRC stage 2 heads (317 core) and the top valve cover bolt closest to the front of the car is stripped. I have it basicly hand tightened. I am afraid it is going to cause me leaks. What can I do? Helicoil? Old mechanics tricks? etc....

These bolts torque to a spec in the inch-lbs range, and they're aluminum threads...very easy to overtighten and strip.

Time-sert is my favorite fix but a Helicoil should work. Be sure to mask off the surrounding area so no metal filings fall into the engine during the process.

I've had good luck drilling the center of the bolt and using a left hand drill bit to back it out... BUT i did it on a Cummins ISM engine and it was exhaust manifold bolt on the head closest to the firewall. Talk about nerve wrecking... I used some heat and plenty of PB Blaster! The bolts to the valve cover are small but i'm sure you could pull it off maybe??

Uh, did you read the post? He has stripped threads, not a broke bolt.
