Btw if anybody thinks they might know why the very tip of the spring would break off please chime in... The only thing I can think of is maybe when installing it I got the inner spring caught underneath it? I have all 16 of my stock seats and I put every seat on so it can't be that.

You need some Brian Tooley Springs!

No failures on the platinum springs since their inception in 2005!

So I'm having problems and instead of helping with the problem you try and sell me your springs? That really makes me want to do business with you

Sent you a PM.

Just trying to help as valve springs are a subject no one really touches on as far as quality and failures go.

Btw I have been told by 3 different people now that it is common for the spring tips to break uppon startup because of burs on the tips of the springs contacting the upper coil and this causes them to break the very tip off. For anyone looking to avoid this in the future I'm told you can take a file and smooth down the tips. I'm guessing this is what happend here. Nothing else can really explain it. Thanks for all the usefull info and Martin I will be looking into more about what we talked about over pm's.

We can't all be "I screwed up my car fix it for me" posters, can we?

And get somebody to help you with grammar & spelling, please.

Still trolling huh? I didn't screw up the spring. I installed it and found out why the tip broke off by asking my question in this thread. Never did I ask anybody to help fix it for me. You can't fix a broken tip on a spring lol.

And god get somebody to help you with your obsession with trolling people's threads

Looks like the 224r cam is only .581" lift, does it need a duel spring set up?

Yeah, that seems to be the norm to put to much spring. Kinda like lifter preload.

I wanted a dual spring for the added safety in one breaking you have the chance of the second spring to save your engine. Plus the I started seeing threads popping up with the pacs breaking. I haven't heard of any of the prc .650 springs breaking.

weren't the Pacs breaking on new Hemi motors?......i have 1518's on the cam in my sig for about a year and they've been great.....but i might want to invest in a double spring set if the Pacs have been failing.....i definitely don't want to be replacing a motor because of a damned spring

I seen alot of those threads over a year ago. It was eary 2011 when most of those were coming up. I beleive they got rid of the bad batch and sent out new ones to anybody that had them break. Than I seen a few not to long ago and just decided to go with a dual spring.

I heard of a bad batch, not sure how many got out. If you've been going for a year I would never change them for a dual spring.

The PRC's and Patriots don't normally break. But I have seen them loose tension and sag. Ever compared dyno graphs after a year or so and see the difference in the graph at the upper rpm range? Or set all 16 side by side on a flat surface and look at the difference in heights?

Lift is a part of the equation.

Lobe aggressiveness and valve size and weight will also determine what springs should be used.

I prefer a dual Spring... Valve Control is your Key to Long life
plus if you should have a spring failure, you are far less likely to have a dropped valve...I wont say it wont happen, but you have a lot better odds than with a single spring.
