Cam Recommendations and Opinions Please!!
The gm hot cam can be very nice cam. I know someone had one on ported 243s. Wasent a high rpm beast but was very torqey on the bottom end. Car would burn normal 16 inch street tires through 3rd like they weren't even their. That being said I wouldent think the cam would be a waist of time for your goals. Not that it's a bad cam but the newer designs can be just as streetable and make more power
That being said their are much better cams out their My eps 226-230 cam and the car was tuned by eps drives like stock and put down good times and numbers for a cam and headers only
I wouldent hesitate to do a 224r or a 224-228 cam either. Their are plenty of guys here like predatorz and a bunch others on here that can spec you a cam for your goals.

@ Martin. I just wanted to use ls6 springs because you can find them cheap. I Just dont want to spend an arm and a leg since im not trying to go too crazy on the cam. I just basically want an improvement over stock. it sounds like there are better cams than the hotcam. Im totally fine with getting a different cam besides the asa or hotcam, they are just inexpensive. but at the same time if im going to pull the car apart to do this i want to be happy with the cam.. so maybe a custom grind? I dont even know anymore.. Im so lost at this point im about to just throw in the towel but im leaning towards the 224r 114 lsa
I would go with Pred-Z's cam with a set of Pac 1518's and other supporting mods.....just make sure you warm up your car to operating temp before you beat on it with the beehives.......Pred helped me pick out my cam and i couldn't be happier.......do it once and get what you want out of it, that way you won't be riding around wishing you'd went bigger.
