Are there any distinguishable things to look for? Part no's? I may be picking one up along with the ls6 heads I'm buying.
How much is a block like this worth and what are its advantages.
I'm thinking this is gonna be my motor I build up!
I pick up my 02 SOM SS next week and I already have a spare engine for it, lol.

Just like the use of a C5R block offers absolutely "ZERO" power gains over any year LS1 block.
It's all in the heads and intake.

what's up lyle,
I read somewhere that the c5r block has more webbing ie, it may be stronger.
this may be the block I may use in order to stay with (or beat, hehe) you. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

LS6 blocks are supposed to have better bay to bay breathing for the crankshaft. You can look on the passenger side of the block to tell the difference. There is a small area of deck not covered up by the head on this side. If it has small two indentions (one about two times as long as the other) it is an ls6 block. The ls1 blocks are flat in this area. I verified this in corvettes of carlisle when gm had a cutaway of an ls1 next to a cutaway of an ls6.

Thanks
Thanks
I'll show you the dif. when you come by, we'll pop my hood so you can see the color alone is darker gray than my ls1, and porosity of the sand cast ls6 block is dif. along with crankcase vent is dif....Dave
I have a bare LS6 crate motor over at Speed Inc. right now, I will forward them this thread and see if they can take a pic of the spot you are mentioning.

ZERO power gains over the LS1/LS6 block, it just gives some piece of mind because it can be re-sleeved. But I have 2yr's/24,000 miles on this motor, I'm sure I'll have a new one built before that comes due.
Are you gonna have Mike build your motor? If so, I'll be a little worried, he can build with the best of them.
