Default Cams

I know I know, this is probably an age old forum discussion brought up in new threads daily but anyway....

I bought an LS1 that I plan on building this winter/next summer...
Anyway.
The only mod I want is a cam.

I like the sound of something like the Torquer V2, but have my concerns.
I don't want to sacrifice low end power and I want it to be drivable with a 6 speed.

I am putting it into a 2nd gen Fbody.

My other concern is that I will kill gas mileage. I don't mind taking a couple MPG hit, but don't want to go from like 24hwy to 18.

Thanks!

You will need at least long tubes, catback, ls6 intake, and a lid. Those suporting mods are a must. The best overall street cam for performance and driveability is probably the 228R. The Torquer V2 is a great cam but it might lose a little down low. Good luck with your choice.

The mods above are not a must. You will need them if you want to make good power, but IMO a "must" would be valve springs, hardened pushrods, timing chain, new lifters, etc...

The bigger the cam you get the more important the parts that MikeWS6 said you needed. A properly tuned cam setup will not hurt your gas mileage as long as you don't drive it hard.

i have never seen a lid or a cat back for a second gen hmmm, i do recommend headers though as fare as drivabillaty i have a cam bigger then the v2 drive it every day around 300 miles a week with a 6 speed i get 25 mpg highway and 16 around town if you drive right breath on the gas peddle and i get 13 around town lol

I will probably buy a kit from TSP for the Cam. I emailed them today and they recommended the 228R. I think that will probably suit what I want well.
As far as supporting mods.... It will have headers/true duals. Also new chain and lifters.

I want to have a 4 barrel carb'ed GMPP intake, but I want to make an adapter plate and mount the stock TB from a 4th gen on it... If I can make that work.
