How much should I expect to pay for a basic LS1 shortblock rebuild?

Probably going to go with stock rods but forged pistons. Will have the block blueprinted and the heads milled 0.010". Budget isn't my concern. It's more to not waste money on components/operations I don't need. I can only make but so much power and I will only turn so much RPM so I have no need for an engine that can support 800 rwhp and turn 10,000 rpms for hours on end... that kind of thing.

Looks like it's used vs. new parts. TSP's cheapest 346 shortblock uses a new block, new crank, and forged rods/pistons. Whereas TMS's $1799 setup uses a rebuilt bore-over 5.3 block, used crank, used rods, and new pistons. Makes sense. Now I have to determine what will work for my intended use.
Will that affect the class you race in at all? just curious

We did a basic rebuild on a truck 5.3 recently and it was right at the $2k mark, that was completely assembled. The master rebuild kits for the LS cost a LOT more than the old style SBC.
