Default Just a simple power question... ('98 LS1)

How much power should I be making around when I do a full bolt on setup with H/C/I and a turbo running 5psi? Around 540? It's an A4 btw.

Just give me a very rough estimate... Like what have some people pulled off with a setup like this?

Should be close to 600 even through an A4 with all that.

Damn ok. I really didn't think it would be that much, I was just hoping it to be 500 or a little more. If I can hit 480 - 500 with no turbo I might just not get a turbo.

Might get a better guess in the FI section...

Honestly I wasn't trying to be an ***, but depending on cam size, compression, heads, and intake choices you can have a wide range of final horsepower production.

With a good set of ported high flowing heads, high flowing intake and exhaust 5 psi could give you 100+ HP over a stock engine being hit with 5 psi.

I've seen a 137hp difference just in a cam swap on an FI car.

But, I see no reason not to be able to hit 550hp with the right setup, might just take a few more pounds to do it....any reason for the 5psi?

I don't really know how much the engine will be able to handle so just to be safe I'll probably stick to 5psi until I learn more. If I could run 80psi I would though lol.

What turbo? Front or rear mount?

550 is too easy for a turbo! Look into a moser 9" rear to help make use of the new power!

And at the least a 255 walbro fuel pump with hotwire kit, you should be able to survive for a good while with that and a good tuner in your hands..

I agree, but I'd go twin 255's just to be on the safe side.....

Lol if your anything like me 5psi will be fun for a little while, but then you will want to crank it up some more

You should be able to make a legit 450 at the wheels with a great heads cam and intake combo. For more you're gonna need cubes or that turbo.

If you buy the expensive stuff (AFR heads, FAST intake, Nasty cam) and get the tune spot on it shouldn't be a problem (prob need injectors too) plenty of guys making low 400s on mild cams...

I think it's safe to say that with a set of TFS 215's, mid 230's duration EPS cam, Fast 102, TSP 1 7/8 headers + supporting mods for everything listed that you should see 440-460..

oh yeah some 42 lb green top injectors will hold that all well and you can probably pick up for about $175-$200 in the classifieds as we speak..

If all you want is 550 hp then you might want to seriously consider a Texas Speed H/C combo for instance, and you can alway's add a 150 wet shot to it and get your desired 550+

A good Nitrous Outlet plate kit is under 1k, TSP H/C kit about 2k, 42 lb SVO injectors $200, ported ls6 oil pump $160, a good 3600 yank SS stall $800..

that's 4 grand plust add a tune to that a misc gaskets... just south of 5k

Now a turbo kit you'll be atleast 10k, and that's if you buy everything used and your doing your own labor, and figure you car to be out of use for atleast a year (speaking of my build so far) and from others on here i've seen..

Goodluck and read all of the stickies, google ''turbo stock ls1" and read every thread you see and you'll see many people have asked the same you have... And your in luck because some are a few years old and you can learn from their mistakes...

Yeah, I just want the cheapest way to 500+, but I don't want it to just be a dyno queen, I want it to get 0 - 60 in around 3.5 - 4 seconds. Or is that hoping too high?

A turbo is NOT EVEN CLOSE to 10k the huron speed kit plus a fuel system puts you at 3600ish and plenty of room to grow

Double that price and that's what it will take.

$3,600? Yeah right..

When you add up those parts it's hits $3,600 but you need supporting mods to drive around at 500+

Unless you want a dyno queen

I think what I'm gonna do first is just an H/C/I and a catback ORY. I'm guessing it'll end up around 425 - 450hp. Do I need to upgrade my drivetrain then or can I wait a little longer?

you can safely drive on 420-450 with the stock rear because your an A4 and those last alot longer than a 6 speed. You'll want a good stall converter and a tranny cooler too, your 4l60 will last at 420-450 too..
