Default blew up my ls1

so i have a 2000 camaro that had your basic bolt ons, the engine had only 53k miles and get a terrible noise after i did a thrid gear pull. turns out a broke a rod and the piston messed up my valves and all.

I was wondering what everyone thought about what direction should i take? should i rebuild the ls1 or should i do a lq9 build. the cars my dd, but i want an engine that i can beat on without worrying.

Im hoping to spend between 3-4k,
suggestions?

If I ever blow up I am dropping an LQ9 in my car. IMO it is the most cost effective option, plus you will pick up some torque with the extra cubes.

Depends what you want the build for and what are your power goals? If you want to make over 4xxwhp the cheaper route would be LQ with H/C/I but forged LS1 is an awesome route but obviously more expensive, BUT if you plan on spraying it or reving it high you don't have to worry about it if you got forged. Me personally if the budget allowed id go Forged 347 with some nice compression H/C and nitrous.

Idk if its me or but im stuck on aluminum blocks just cant put myself to put more weight on the front end. Most likely the damage probably messed up the bores so theres no machining room to bore the ls1 block out. New ls1/2 longblock or lq9/lq4 is the best route.

I spun two rod bearings in my ls1.. I'm so happy I went with a LQ4 instead of a complete rebuild. Way cheaper also.

What do you think the cheapest would be for me to get a forged ls1? I want a forged motor but Im not sure if I can afford it. I just want a bulletproof motor that makes over 450 N/a

I have a stock bottom end in my LS1 besides Katech rod bolts and my car made 470 NA, and will make even more when I put a FAST on it. Go with the LQx motor, and make more power with less money. You won't regret it.

I'm going to tear it down this weekend hopefully and get some good pictures.
And I've heard a lot of good things from those heads. The Texas speed ones right?

Even though the LQ block is cheaper....unless you are a drag racer, you will wish you kept with the aluminum block...Been there done that in so many situations! Even though you will spend more money (Likely) on the LS2/LS3, I feel you will be much happier and not wish you hadnt gone cheap.
