Build thoughts, lq9/with what heads
Car is a 91 bird gutted the weight should be around 3000-3200 I hope. Ill be running a th350 or 400 trans.
Current plans
Stock lq9 rotating assembly plus arp rod bolts.
Th-350/400 with a 3200-3600stall
4:10 gears
Vic jr carb intake
Holley 850 double pumper
I'm hoping for 500ish whp and low 11's or better. My question is this
I have a set of 862's, should I send them off and have them fully worked over(ai,prc etc) or should I go with some stock ls3s milled .030? Any cam recommendations for either setup? The heads are my hold up at the moment. Can't get a cam till I know what heads fit best.

My car is 3700+lbs. with me in it and will go 11.40s with a small 2800 converter and a pretty small cam.
I would think the Texas Speed heads with one of their magic stick cams and a 4000 converter would get you in the 10s on a reasonable budget.

You will find a good community of helpful people there who all run and have experience with carbureted LS set ups.

Looks like ill be buying some 243s/799 and send them off.
As for buying a pair and then sending them off, I am not sure you will save any money that way. Texas Speed sells them cheap enough with no core that I doubt you could do better by buying a used set and then shipping and then the CNC work, guides, valve job etc.
