I would rebuild the ls1 you already got...this is because I just don't like iron blocks in fbodies just because of the weight difference, if you do go with a 6.0 you can at least recoup some of the money from selling your old ls1...if you want it to handle keep the aluminum block ls1, but if all you want is straight line performance go with the 6.0...you can't lose with either motor! Now if you find an lq9 (high compression) 6.0 that is the motor to start with (ls2 aluminum 6.0 is top of the hill though as far as third gen LS motors)

No replacement for displacement... If you found a 6.0 for $350 I'd hop on it. Use the pan and acc. from your ls1 and drop it in.
People are making some ridiculous power on the stock crank so you could save yourself some money there and just get a good set of rods and pistons. Stud it all out and with a good tune you should be set...

Since I run one I'll throw a vote in for the 6.0l. 100 more pounds than the stock ls1, but if you feel the need you can drop that weight back down with a tubular cross member and lighter front suspension.

My take is if you plan to go for big power or boost go iron. If your not making considerable more power than the aluminum LS the extra weight will suck! My front end raised about 3" from swapping iron out for aluminum. It may only be an extra 100lbs or so, but it seems like so much more.

I didn't realize you said you could get the 6.0 for 350 bucks...jump on that! You could swap on your ls1 heads and be making right around 10:1 compression...

ecm should be a plug and play for the ls1 and the 6.0, if your not making big power i would suggest staying away from the iron block. look into a 383 stroker with some 11:1 pistons if your looking to spend that much.
