I replaced the stock chain with a ls2 in my 5.3L at 220,xxx when I rebuilt the motor. Chains aren't like timing belts that to to be changed every 100,000.

If your planing on a cam swap or have to replace the oil pump ect I would throw a new ls2 on while your in there.

What year is it? If its a 98 or possibly an early 99 it will have a first design timing chain, but that being said I wouldn't tear the motor apart just to change it unless doing a cam swap or if you have a problem with the chain jumping time...

Wouldn't be a bad idea to swap, but I would wait until you have everything tore apart for a cam swap unless thats something you don't intend on doing for a while.
