Breaking ls2 timing chains
Breaking ls2 timing chains Im putting together a 370 from tms with forged rods and pistons, 5.3l heads ported, polished with ls1 valves, and some kind of cam that comp 26918 springs can handle. I have a new (700 miles on it) ls2 timing chain and cam sprocket from my last engine.
I was wondering who has broken an ls2 timing chain? What setup did you have? Anyone heard of these breaking? How many miles were on it before it broke?
Im asking because the guy who ported my heads and tunes my car reccomends a double roller because he said hes seen many single chains break, but im thinking he meant high mileage ones. Just want to hear other peoples experience. Although cheap insurance, its still an extra 100 some bucks. But i will defineatly buy a double rollerif the extra insurance is worth it.

ls2 chain is pretty stout. I would think if you break one you have some other "harmonic" issues going on. double roller requires clearancing the cover. If your that worried about breaking a chain pick up the Katech C5R chain. Good to go, no worries.
Hmm, decisions decisions. I think ill be fine with what i have, i just wanted to see if someone that had a similar combination as me would come in here and say "yeah i broke one so get a double".

If you're actually worried about it then just go with an IWIS chain. Rolons are pretty much the standard that comes in most timing sets and IMO is fine too. I sincerely doubt you'd snap either. Katech C5R are the absolute best single sets, but you'll pay for it.

Hello , I've been reading all posts on this forum since 2009 and from what I've read the only application that is a problem for timing chains is road racing as the engines spend a large portion of the time in the 3000-4000 rpm range and at those rpm's there are alot of high frueqency harmonics being produced and those sound waves are killer on t-chains so to combat the effects They are runnibg timing chain dampeners ,,,,,,,,,do a search and You'll find the info on the dampeners .
