Unhappy Symptoms of a bad lifter ..ticking ??

I have the infamous ticking noise associated with headers.....and I have done a search on everything from ticking to exhaust leaks and collapsed lifters....Thing is how would you know if you have a collapsed lifter ???What are the symptoms??...I have this real audible ticking noise coming from the pass side header collector...and you can hear the exact same ticking coming from the valve cover ....It is real clear at idle and ticks faster with acceleration while parked or driving....We have checked for alot of possible culprits but are tring to narrow it down...

1.checked for leaks...none...even welded the headers to Y-pipe at collector to make sure....

2. Did the A.I.R. restrictor mod ...checked valves/both are fine.....
3.checked plugs and wires...fine all the way through...
4. Checked oil pressure and filled crankcase ...fine..
5.Possible bent pushrod?....Don't know I have an A4...rarely hit rev limiter..
6.checked injector...fine..

Now I am desperate....any help would be appreciated..My buddy and I are gonna remove the valvecover this weekend to see how everything is under there and hopefully solve the ticking issue....any suggestions opinions things to recheck for?????????????

try taking a small tube to your ear and listen around the whole block. I have that same ticking noise too but found it to be coming from the injector solenoids. It's worth a shot

I had a ticking, I thought it was a bent pushrod. Opened it up and #6 was pumping oil. Turned out it was a labor knock from running rich and washing the cylinders... expect anything!

assuming you have the stock valvetrain...pull the valve covers off and do an inspection...its a piece of cake. coil packs, air tubes, cover bolts. look at the rockers and springs..if you want pull the rockers out and check the pushrods..torque rockers back in...reassemble...you can do it in 2 hours.

well believe it or not I added a pint of Marvel Mystery Oil to my crankcase (I was a pint low) and my ticking has reduced dramatically. I'll wait till i burn some more and add the rest since it calls for a full quart when you do it. I've had this tick for a long time and it appears to have possibly been a lifter.

If so "mystery oil" wil not cure it. it will just prolong the inevitable.
