i installed katechs 1 at a time , torqued to exact specs, shifting at 6500, spun a 2 bearings a few hundred miles later.

take it for what it is, some people run them with no issues, but if i were to do it again i would def. have the rods resized just to be sure.

You hear more from people who had bad experiences or CAUSED their own bad experiences.

Yes both engines have had guys lose them at low miles and both have had guys run cammed cars past 200K miles. Tune things well and assemble it properly and it will in all likelyhood last.

Far as opti issues GROSSLY blown out of proportion by idiots who believe a distributor cap and rotor should be "life of engine" rather than tuneup parts. Retards bitch about needing an opti at 100K and never put a cap and rotor on it which might have been all it needed. You can't fix stupid, but I sure wish we could tattoo it on their foreheads.

LT1s can make power too, just a lot more of them in the hands of stupid people who spend money wrong. I have beated sprayed LS carS, but my LT1 runs a bit better than most for what it is.

I wouldn't give you a dollar for a box car load of LT1's ... the first, third and fourth gen CSB engines have great reputations for a reason ... the second gen was not one of GM's better ideas....nuff said.

The LT1 was basically a gen 1 with reverse flow cooling and a front mounted distributor, the rotating assemblies are interchangeable and the heads/intakes commonly adapted between the two, so anyone that says the gen 1 was great but the gen 2 was bad is lacking in basic comprehensions skills.

do regular maintence you'll be fine. i know when im out driving or at the track i dont think about things breaking. if it going to happen you cant stop it lol. if it can break, it can be fixed. i use good parts especially in the motor/drivetrain area but nothing is a guarantee.

To answer the original question my dad threw a trex cam in his ls1 with 168,000 on it. Its fine still. My first (and only) lt1 (which ate 2 optis, 1 additional due to over heating-3 total) spun a bearing and the seller of the engine said it had 50,000 miles on it. Then again my 5.3l with 100,000 spun a bearing as well so you cant really say its in the design. All engines do it, as far as i know.
