Default Scat Rods

I'm doing a first time LS(5.3) build for my 1990 Ranger. Scat shows a 6.100 rod, the stock rods are listed at 6.098. Are these rods considered a stock replacement?

I'm planning on just freshening the motor, bearings, rings, oil pump, cam(still undecided)etc. I'm still up in the air whether i'm gonna just re-use the stock pistons. I would only change those for compression purposes, no power adders will ever be used.

I can't see just putting arp bolts in the stock rods, then having them resized, when new rods are only $300. The Katech rod bolts also seem like a waste when new rods are only another $100. I plan on spinning the motor a bit and don't wanna worry about the rods bolts giving up the ghost. I wanna take care othe the internals before the engine is installed.

Those Scat I Beams are a hell of a deal. They are basically a stock replacement for the 6.100" length, but they are certainly an upgrade with the 7/16" ARP bolts rather than the 9mm the stock rods use.

Don't forget to factor in the cost of re-balancing the rotating assembly, when you change those rods.

So they are considered a stock replacement even though they are 6.100 vs. 6.098 on the stockers?

I know i need to balance the assembly, but i want to make the decision on the pistons before doing so. I had thought of using a 4.8 piston to bump the compression a bit.

Yes. All that will happen if you use a 6.098 piston with a 6.1 rod is the piston will be above the deck .01" instead of .008". No big deal as long as you are running at least a .051" head gasket.

Whoa, thread necro. Sorry was on my phone and didn't see the date.
