Default lq4 common problems?

I am looking to pickup a used lq4 for a chevelle of mine, how many problems do you guys see when you open up these engines that have around 100k miles? My plan is to just cam it for now and wondering if camming one of these with 100k miles is a bad idea with out touching anything but springs.

I would definitely also do a oil pump and timing chain with the cam swap on an 100k mile engine. Also going to need to do some pushrods with a new cam.

I bought a 02 LQ9 with 150,000 awhile back I did a compression test first and it had surprisingly had high/even numbers. So I pulled the heads had'em decked about .008 new springs reused valves and did a little "pocket porting" also did the Ls2 timing set
other than that i'm gonna do lifters and oil pump and be done with it..

from what I hear these motors still run pretty strong over 100,000m

Yes, oil pump and timing set would be good to replace while you're in there.

I pick up one with a 130k and there is no sluge, but I suggest what the others have and if the buget is there maybe ARP bolts.

This is the key. I've seen 200k ls engines look brand new inside, and I've seen 50k engines that look/run like they have 500k on them. Buying a used engine is always a gamble.

If you already have it out, you might as well do a ported oil pump since its apart ...the cam, push rods, and springs go with out say..and you could also rebuild the roller rockers..
Mileage doesnt mean much if it wasnt beat on... we built an ls1 out of a 99 c5..
It had 190k, did the following
ecs cam, springs, pushrods, new caps, needle bearings
Ported lingenfelter pump
new gears, and chain
ls6 conversion, new seals on everything

Added a Procharger, meth, and it had seen 9 psi consistently without a hiccup in the last 5-6 months and tons of miles.
