Broken bolt during valvespring install HELP!!
During my cam install I was swapping the springs using a waterpump bolt for my compressor. The bolt just snapped in one of the holes
How can I get this out?
How can I get this out? This really should be taken out of jMx's site. The water pump bolt is too weak, IMO and as evidenced by others that have done the same, to use on that spring compressor. Spend the $25 to get Larry's tool and the stud and nut it comes with to do it right.
Now, to your question. You can:
By an EZ-out to remove the broken remains
Use a Dremel to cut a slot in it and use a flat head screwdriver to back it out
weld something to the top of the broken portion to serve as a way to back it out
Take the head off and go to a machine shop to have them remove it

guys I should actually try moving the bolt before I bother you guys
came out with my fingers.
Cannibal I used my waterpump bolt because the Patriot Gold's are alittle too tall for the rocker bolt. I'm gonna goto the dealer and buy a waterpump bolt then goto lowes and see if I can find a long grade 8 bolt to use

It will be a metric bolt, so you may have a hard time finding it at lowes. I've had better luck with Ace. They carry an amazing selection of bolts, grade 5 and 8.
To figure out the thread size, just try and thread different nuts of known thread sizes over it, and then when you find one that fits, take that nut and thread it over the bolt you want to buy.

Even though the bolts were not grade 8's they are not likely to break if screwed in good and then use the nut to press the spring. Studs would be better but the bolts will work.

How can I get this out?
How can I get this out?Take a Dremel tool with a cutting wheel and cutr a straight line through the top. Then use a short fat flathead screwdriver to get it out far enough so that you can grab it with pilers then just twist it out. Worked great for me.

If it is in an area where you can fit a drill then im sure you could use a standard bolt-out kit.
If it is broken below the opening of the hole then I dont know what to tell ya. Mabe then try craftman's micro bolt extractor kit? Those might reach.
Good Luck to you.
