Talking TSP 228 in and running!!

Finally got my cam install done. Got the springs direct ship from Patriot through TSP today (Thanks Brian, Jason, and Terry). Put the heads back on and buttoned every thing back up. The cam had +3 already in it, so I retarded it 2 degrees so now its set up at 111.5+1. WOW!! I love the way this cam idles. It does have somewhat of a sewing machine sound now. I haven't gotten the chance to take it out on the street yet, I've only idled it in the driveway. Im really looking forward to seeing how it does when I get to really get on it. The weird thing is that the very first time I turned the key (after cranking it with the coils undone to prime the oil pump). The first time I tried to start it, it fired right up and idled just fine at like 1100. Im waiting for it to drop down to 900 where it idles normally. Just weird that I just cranked it and it started with no throttle, it needed NO help staying alive. Still, it sounds pretty damn good. Also, with the new LS6 oil pump, it was idling at 60 psi on startup. Has a nice lope to it, but still idles pretty good. Ill post up again when I get a track time or a new dyno number. Thanks again to jmx for his website and Brian@TSP, Jason@TSP, and Terry@Patriot for good customer service.

thanks guys. I'm really enjoying it so far. It's a little hard to start at first and let it find an idle, but once it finds an idle it just thumps. I haven't gotten to step on it yet, I've kept it below 4k until the springs get a chance to cool overnight. Tomorrow we'll see how she does at 6k+ It idles around 900 or so right now, id like to have it tuned to idle about 850 or so if i could. Plainwhite, what did it idle at in your car? My SES light is blinking at me, I think thats just because the computer is detecting misfire. Nothing to worry about i dont think??? As soon as the computer learns itself out, im off the the dyno to see what i gained. I'll post up when i do.

I had the idle at 850 900 with A/C.

I would think a tune would be good before the dyno...

Can you tell me the lift numbers on your CAM card? According to the card that came with my TSP 228R CAM mine has a .604/.604 lift instead of the listed .588 on their site.

Comp Cams have been figuring lift with 1.75 ratio instead of the stock 1.7 ratio. Yours will be .588 lift if your using stock rockers.

well im pretty damn sure now that my car needs tuning. Does my SES light blinking at me mean the computer is detecting misfire? I thought thats what that meant. Also, would the computer pull timing if it detected misfire? I think thats the only kink ive got to work out now is tuning. Tuning, and next comes a 9 inch and its on.

So does that mean when people order a comp 224/224 .581 112 they are really getting something closer to a TR224 with .560 lift?

BTW-my TSP231/237 cam has .595/.598 lift advertised and on the cam card.

i dont think thats what he means...lunati makes the 231/237 cam for tsp and some of the other cams comp makes for them...lunati uses the correct rocker ratio when calculating lift but it sounds like comp use a 1.75 ratio when you get the cam card so the #'s will be a little higher on your cam card than how it specs out on tsps sight...your getting the right lift and everything it just looks a little different on the card.

No, I believe that the Thunder 224 is on the XE lobe and the TSP 224R is on the more aggressive XER lobe.

Heres a link to my CAM Card, sorry it was a little ripped up. So this for sure means I have a .588 lift and not a .604?

BTW, can someone scan a picture of their Comp Cam card that looks close to mine so I can photochop it and fix my picture up? Please, thanks!
