I plan to replace the sending unit, and if that doesn't help I'll replace the pump and o-ring, and if that doesn't help-it looks like a rebuild. Anyone know of any job openings in DFW?
When I noticed it...probably around 10k-15k miles ago. about 2 years. I don't drive my car much. It's been to the track several times and I added my converter in that time. my car has 88k on in it now.

Let me know how changing that stuff goes.

What is 'normal' psi for these engines? I had my engine rebuilt over the summer and I never paid attention to what the oil pressure was before and after. With Mobil 1 5W-30, it was 25-30 psi at idle and would drop to about 20 psi when I would let the clutch out and no more than 45 psi at WOT 6k RPM. I just changed it to Mobil 1 10W-30 this weekend and it is higher, around 45 psi on cold startup, around 35 psi at warm idle.

Can anybody recommend a good place for oil analysis? I'd like to do that in a few thousand miles just to check for a spun bearing or anything.

Could be too much bearing clearance.

Thanks 2001 HD, I'll give that a try.

What's the worst that could happen with too much bearing clearance and low pressure?

Just another thought- I am using a Fram oil filter. What is everybody else using, especially the guys with the low pressure? What is recommended?

Hmmmm, interesting. I've heard that before, but thought nothing of it. Well, I will change the filter for an AC Delco or something and see what happens then. Hopefully that will cure my problem.

as long as you have 10ps1 / 1000rpm you will be fine
mine sits just below 40 at idle...and goes up to almost 80 when I am up at 6500rpm...
and I have noticed it sits a little higher or lower depending on filter....right now I have on a fram..

That's just it- I am only seeing a max of 45 psi at WOT @ 6k RPM.

soundengineer- what mods do you have done to your car?

Some obvisou things to check

- check your oil level. Make sure your arent running really low
- change your oil and run an AC delco filter. Check the plug for shavings

If that does nothing look at an oil pump replacement.

did this happen right away or over time after the swap?

just make sure it is a longer filter, it will help your oil presure, by giving you a better flow.

Chris, my level is fine and it seems to be the same no matter what filter I use. My pressure has progressively gotten worse over the past year or so (I'm guessing I only put about 5K on my car the past year) and I've used Fram, AC Delco, and now a WIX. Once warm I get almost 10 psi at idle and near 40 at WOT.

Has anyone ever heard of an oil pump to start loosing pressure like this? I thought they just quit working all together...

Might switch from 10W-30 to 15W-50 or something like that.

Thanks

Quick question. I am showing these same indications but my question is are you running hot. I removed my radiator cap and cranked the car and noticed that the water did not move. Believe I might have to replace my water pump and thermostat and believe that is what is causing my low oil pressure after it gets hot. What do yall think???

I was reading old threads

Did you ever figure out your problem?

If so what was it.

Thanks.

Thanks for the help,

Nope, never figured it out. I just replaced my stock oil pump and now I get alot higher pressure, but it still goes down after the engine warms up. I'm building a whole new engine now.
