I'm hoping end of June. I'm going to be doing it in my garage on jack stands. My wife won't be able to park in the garage, so that should motivate me to finish this in 2 weeks or less.

I may actually take a week off from work and just go out at 7am until I'm tired and see what happens.

I plan to do a phased build thread on here. I usually find the weirdest crap to point out for folks who might do the same thing.

The Cam Motion core is a better aluminum, so that's a big plus. I'm glad he made the change.
My EPS cam from Comp is going bad after about 8k miles. I talked to Geoff this week and he said the same thing. I'm on the hunt for a new cam now. My setup is very similar to yours except I'm running a ported FAST 92.

Are you running a stock bottom end? I saw that you are going with the Cometic .040 gaskets. Geoff recommend stock GM gaskets for my setup.

Can't wait to see what power you make and what it runs.

Yeah. Stock 144k mile shortblock.

I figure it'll spin a bearing about 3 weeks after I get it tuned. Then I'll be stuffing some Wiseco pistons, Compstar rods, and Clevite bearings in there and milling down to 58cc...

That's exactly what Geoff told me. And it's what several other vendors told me too in private. I don't see a lot of them advertising their unhappiness with Comp, tho. Comp is an 800lbs gorilla in the aftermarket, so I think folks try to steer clear of pissing them off.

Btw, too bad you aren't closer. I'd bring my car by to get it detailed. Whoever detailed it before I bought it took a rotary to it and left hazing and ghosting and swirls everywhere. I have half an idea that I'm going to get me a dual action orbital and go to town one weekend claying and then cutting/polishing this SOB. I figure I should wait until I'm done with a bulk of the go stuff before I care about the show stuff.

I will probably post pics of my cam after I've talked to Comp. I've been trying to get a hold of them for a week now. It's damn near impossible.

Not trying to hijack Your thread Jake but since the subject was brought up i thought id ask a few. This comp cam situation has got me worried now since i have a Tick comp grind cam. Im curious to see the pics LiljayV10 of your cam. How did you know the cam was going bad? Was there a sudden difference in performance or sound?

I'll shoot you a PM. I don't want to clutter Jake's thread more than I already have.

Nah, you can't hijack my thread. It came up a few pages ago.

Btw, to clutter my own thread, I got Nitto NT05s the other day and have been enjoying them all weekend. They are quiet, ride nice, handle very well, and well, they still spin. I don't know how they are in rain, but I'll let everyone know. Overall, it's a nice tire at a good price. Paid $168 shipped per tire. Had Pep Boys install for $19 a tire. Not too bad.

I'll have to get a pic on the car. They look really good.

I had the NT05R's on the back of my car and they did remarkably well in the rain FWIW.

I'll probably go that route. I just have the NT05s on the back now, but may do either the Toyo Proxes TQ, NT05R, or R888s in the rear. I'll probably just get whatever is cheapest.

Cam failure can be caused by lots of factors. It is literally like winning the lottery for the odds that you got a bad grind from the get go. I would definitely not worry about your cam just all of a sudden failing due to a defect. Its the hardest piece of steel in an automobile. Not having the right length pushrod or a bad lifter will screw up a cam. Oiling or type of or lack of oil will do it too. I bet you a new cam that you dont have a factory defective cam.

Tell me exactly how you know a cam is going bad? Just because someone might agree with you on how you think a cam is bad from the get-go seems kind of silly. Like I just said, its doubtful.

I can see this being a problem if it was a re-grind by some machine shop. These are Comp cores and not a second hand cam. You get what you pay for. Tick isn't going to put their name on something that they don't trust to begin with, let alone have 100's of them made.

Jake do you have a picture of your cometic gasket? I just got mine in and it was blackish in color. Just want to see if they are similar. I did not notice any type of seal around the bores like the Gm mls gaskets. Im assuming the blackish color is the viton seal throughout the surface of the gaskets?! Thanks

No - I was going to wait and order that right before I tore everything down. I didn't want it to get messed up.

Sweet build. I just pulled the trigger on my H/C/I as well. Paul, if Jake doesn't mind the thread clutter I'll post up a pic of my cometics. All of my parts are sitting in boxes until I can get my torque converter installed and broke in.

Talking to my tuner, this is a HUGE deal! He deals with FIC all the time and having the chart with the injectors saves him tons of time, and in turn, saves the customer tons of $$! Had I known this before, I would have went with them from the beginning. You went with the right vendor Jake!
