Price for cam install?
#3
I tried to justify paying someone to do my install. But the numbers just didn't add up. I did mine myself with no previous experience at all. Before the cam the most I had ever done was an air intake install Now it did take me the better part of two days but everything seems to have worked out fine,Thank the Lord. Farmtruc helped out a lot too, I asked him some pretty dumb questions, and he always had the smart answer.
Anyway, it was agood experience to have and next time maybe I won't be so nervous about taking on a challenge
So if money is an issue don't be afraid to do it yourself, just my 2 cents.

90% of the people here will tell you to make a weekend of it. Have a couple buddies come over and just have at it. I did my h/c swap alone. My first time every opening up and engine.
Quite a learning experience. There's a great write-up at www.ls1howto.com.
Good Luck....
BTW, I was quoted $425 for cam and spring install.

Do it yourself, it's not that hard at all. Just be sure you have the right tools and you'll make short work of it. I did mine about 5 months ago with my girlfriend helping me and it was also my first time ever opening up an engine. It was actually kind of fun. I've heard shops charging from $350-450 for a cam swap! That's money you can put towards a set of drag radials or other mods.

It can be quite inaccurate. It all depends on tolerances. The only way to correctly install a camshaft is to degree it. Don't get me wrong, I've thrown them in w/o degreeing. Not a good idea, but I'll admit I've done it.
