Default LS1 long in the tooth?

Is it worth the time and investment to build an my LS1 02' WS6 T56 (all stock except for skip eliminator and Volant CAI-stock box is constrictive and I just bought the car) to 600RWHP or should I save it for a LS2 engine/cam/head swap?

Like the old saying goes no replacement for displacement.

EDIT: I'm open to FI or NA. Either Turbo or Blower but I prefer blower sounds better and is more stealth on the street.

Are we talking FI or NA? If NA, then you'll want a stroker to even have a chance.

neither a ls1 or ls2 even fully built with head/cam and all bolt ons will hit 600hp!

both will need a turbo/blower or nitrous... to hit 600hp

i have seen stroked LS3's and HCI LS7's make 600rwhp under NA conditions, but nothing smaller will get there, more realistic is 550, and that is still with expensive parts

Nonsense. It can be done with an ls1 or 2. Yes, it takes a lot of expensive parts, high compression and an excellent intake and heads setup, but it can be done.

Is it feasible? Yes...practical? Not really.

If you're going to upgrade, I would skip the ls2 idea for something larger.

I agree. The biggest challenge will be having a credit card that has a huge limit on it.

Do you mean a stroker ls1/ls2? because a stroker is not a ls1/ls2...

a stroker is a stroker, a diffrent engine altogether...

I would probably end up going with a blower. I like blowers more it sounds sweet in car and are always boosting. It may put more strain on the engine all the time but its easier and cheaper to maintain.

Like what an LS7? I've seen that LS7 T/A video were that car blows the clutch into a million little pieces but if I did go with the LS7 that wouldn't it cost just as much or more in the end for a built turbo LS1/2?

Well my budget is going to be whatever I have to save to buy. This isn't a project I plan on doing in the next few months. Its going to be something I want to do in a the next two years or so. My budget would probably be about $5000 though.

You may as well forget anything ls7 related then.

Yeah your right I would wait a long time on a turn key LS7 it would probably just be better to get a turbo but I'm worried that the LS1 block wouldn't take it for too long and just crack after a few years.

the ls1 block will handle 600 rwhp, just don't get crazy with the boost.seen several ls1 motors making 450+rwhp with 150+ shots of NOS..maybe check the price for a forged ls rotating assembly and a remount turbo kit.

Just do a lot of reading. Look to see what other people have done to reach those goals. I think you will find that $5000 wont cut it. You might be able to buy the blower for that but then what? Ur gonna start breaking everything else. Unless you do a lot of the work yourself, you wont get much more than a rebuilt LS1 between the fenders.
