How much can I mill ? Hey guys need a little help here. My ls1 kicked the bucket on me this past Saturday 
so i'm tossing a stock 5.3 along with a mild cam in it to get back on the road. My question is how much can I mill the heads and what thickness head gasket could I run to up the CR a bit and be in the safe zone.

I don't plan on doing any flycutting, and from what i've reasearched is that if I mill the heads .030 with a .040 gasket that should net me close to stock ls1 compression. The cam i'll be running is a 224/230 .581/.592. Do you think I can still use my 7.4 pushrods ?
If it's a LM7 5.3 with dished pistons you'll have around .012" more available P to V than a flat top piston equipped cathedral port ls engine. Milling the heads the amount your thinking about and the thinner gasket is going to take away .041" of P to V. You need to know what the ICL of your cam is also if it has any ground in ICL advance.
7.4 push rods will not be correct for a set-up that has had .030" cut from the heads along with the thinner gasket.
