I run Rotella 15w40. Havent had an issue running 800 plus hp for the last 2 years.

 

In my Impala SS i use royal purple with their oil filter and have great results from it. Gas improved and power.

 

I go with the cheapest oil i can find Travelers from tractor supply. I think oil brand is overrated. As long as you change it when you are suppose to.I have never had a motor blow up on me.

 

I run royal purple but thinking on trying out vr-1 from valvoline

 

How many of you have ever looked at a UOA?

Sounds like most of you rely on advertizing more than anything else.

 

This is very true.

It's probably best to IGNORE a manufacturer's advertising claims touting their oil.

However, simply using the oils that are well regarded at BITOG is a pretty good idea.

My rule of thumb is to do a oil & filter change when the oil starts to get dark on the stick.

Dark oil is oil that has dirt and combustion by-products in it. Regardless of how long an oil's maker says you can use it, if it has dirt & junk suspended in it, I don't want to be pumping it through my engine. On my DD Blazer, I think this averages about 3,000 miles.

The filter is equally as important as the oil is.

 

IMHO....if you follow the rule above, it really doesn't matter what oil you use in your DD. As long as the oil is API certified, its safe to use in your car.

I put over 150K on my Jeep using Wal-Mart "Super-Tech", not once had an issue.

 

I would use the Walmart oil at a 5K mile interval LONG before I would consider Royal Purple at a 3K mile interval.

 

Well, someone has to do something to make the manufacturers feel as though their marketing dollars were well spent

 

Have used everything but the last few changes have been M1 extended. Going to give that VR-1 a try though.

 

Those of you recommending oils what DATA are you basing your opinions on?

"I used this for xxxx number of miles and all worked out well" is MEANINGLESS because you don't know if it will frag tomorrow, not to mention lubricant based failures are really pretty much a thing of the past.

 

Also the oil you use in your DD with STOCK cam, STOCK valve springs, STOCK lifter, STOCK everything for that matter doesn't amount to a hill of beans when we're talking about high lift, high HP, high compression, aggressive ramp rates.

 

I have that exact same thought for all the "will it hope up" threads...IE Rod Bolts.

Some people will need to chim in with a real oil related engine failure to convince me. I think you will be hard pressed to find one (Please dont drag the lifter explosions into this).

I agree with The Doc. Stock engines are a lot easier on lubes than a race engine.

Badazz, you'll find little love for Royal Purple around here. Many people remain UN-convinced that it's any better that other, less costly lubricants on the market. Ditto on their filters-which, by the way, is pretty much identical to a M1 Extended filter.

Why do I use German Castrol? Because as I understand it, it has the highest temperature rating of just about any oil out there and it's generally accepted as the best all around oil on BITOG.

 

I switched to the vr1 and I used napa gold filters
