Default Which heads to go with?

I just got the 224/.581 112 Comp cam, but Ive heard with stock heads, that it puts alot of stress on the valvetrain resulting in replacing you springs about every year. I didnt want to do that, so I wanted to do heads. But now that Ive got the idea of doing heads, Im thinking of going with a different cam. Who makes some awesome heads at a reasonable price? Ive heard that TEA heads are done fully by machine and that they are fairly cheap. I dont quite have all the money for the heads right now, but Im going to say that money isnt an issue. So if you would, please list the best heads out there no matter what the price, and then the best heads for the money. Which is better...by hand or machine? I know that the cam I got right now is awesome for stock heads, but what is awesome for stage 2 heads? I want it to sound really mean, but I also want it to be streetable and driveable. I drive the car daily, so I dont want something too drastic. I want a cam thats going to give me awesome gains, choppy lope, and that will be driveable. Thanks

why change your heads? that won't make any difference in your reasoning. springs/seats/retainers is what you should be looking at. what part of TX are you in? e-mail me and i can reccommend someone for you. txiggy@attbi.com

Changing your heads is all about what you want to do. Options for heads are 4.8/5.3L truck aluminuim heads, LQ4 6.0L iron or aluminum heads, stock LS1 heads, the LS6 heads, and the GMPP GT2 C5R Vette heads. After that you can find many differnet levels of porting from your tuner of choice. But once again it comes back to what you want to do with the car, and how much you want to spend.

I know that springs, retainers, and pushrods are what I need to be worried about right now, but Im thinking of doing something bigger. Like I said before, the cam that I have right now is a bit much for stock heads, so I wanted to go with a stage 2. But since Im thinking of doing heads, I might as well get a bigger (more aggressive) cam. Im not sure on my budget just yet, but I want to get a really good head cam package. Im thinking of staying with the LS1 heads just because I want it to be a full LS1 car, but Ive heard that stage 2 5.3L heads flow better than the 5.7L LS1 heads. I dont know whats out there, but suggestions would be nice. Thanks

So how much am i looking at for a set of heads? I want to do a stage 2 LS1 heads, but if someone can convince me differently then I would take that into consideration. Do the LS1 FLP headers fit the 5.3 and the LS6 heads?

Absolutes Speeds stage 2's@1,499 are a great deal. The car went 11.62@115 stock internals, with the Absolute Stage 2's and the TR224 cam so far a best of 11.04@121.4.Heads and cam only change made 11.04 pass made in a DA that was 750 higher than the 11.62.In equal DA's the car has a 10.99 in it.G5X2 cam is on the way and a set of Absolute experimental heads to go with it.This car is gonna fly....................Absolute is a sponser and has a link on the banner list to the right.

What all comes with their stage 2 heads? How reliable are they? Are they quality heads? Are they the LS1 heads? Are they hand or machined ported? Ive got the 224 cam, but Im thinking now that I want to do stage 2 heads, that I want to go with a bigger cam. What do you guys think?

I think you need to use the search function.

Our Stage 2 heads are $1900 full hand ported. 2.055in and 1.60ex valves cut to accept larger double valve springs,so you will not have the issue of breaking valve springs. Would work with the cam you have or we could rec. a bigger one to get the max out of your combo.

Thanks Nate...thats what Im talking about! Since Im considering doing stage 2 heads, Im thinking that the 224 cam will not be enough. Some say that the 224 cam is the ultimate cam for stock heads and then some say that I could go a bit bigger. Wel now that I want to do stage 2 heads, I dont think that the 224 is maxing out those heads. So I want to get rid of the cam and go with a bigger one. But first I need to know what head cam package to go with. Thanks

That 224 cam is not bad, in fact you probably won't gain much at the track by going bigger. I'm running 10's with my heads and a first generation 224 .535 lift cam. It'll be changed out this year, but it's not the same as the newer generation 224's by any means.

Drop me an email I can help you out.

GTP heads have worked very well for me! You might pay a little more, but you are getting one of the best heads on the market. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
