I had a set of ported AFR 230 V2's flowed, they are the improved AFR 225. They were on my 416 with a 243/247 .623/.623 114+2, ported Fast 102 & 102 TB. Besides being the most god awful POS to drive I've ever owned it only was in the low 500 RWHP. The flow numbers backed up the low power output, so you won't get there from here.

Something wasnt right. Either your tuner or something with your valvetrain but it should have performed better with decent driveability.

Flow numbers are what they are, those heads were not going to make power.

17* of overlap is also 17* of overlap, not going to have nicest manners under 2K rpm.

Not going to make what power? 600rwhp on a 402, no. But they can make some decent power on a 402-427. They made some pretty decent power on my combo.

What is decent power? 600rw is silly. I'm very interested in your combination, mine did not work.

06 GTO with 421 (4.03X4.125) AFR 230v2's, 243/247 112+2 on softer HUC lobes, FAST 102, ported stock 90mm TB, Kook's 1.75/1.875 stepped headers, 2.5" Corsa catback. Made 544rwhp 522tq. It had a pretty good torque curve.

Just changed out my 90mm TB for a NW 102 and moved to a 3" catback. Hoping to retune and dyno soon to see how much more it added.

Off the shelf AFR 230's? Big numbers, must be a hoot!

The 102 TB can be a little cranky

I made 505 on my 402... Tsp cam, ported 243s, ported fast 102, 102 tb full bolt ons and 1 3/4 headers through a 2.5 inch exhaust.. But aiming for more with Trickflow 235s and custom cam.

Ya, they are the big bore 62cc cambers. Mine are actually blemished units made from the 225 cores. I know one of the big things with AFR heads are not the top end flow, it's about the mid range and total flow numbers.

Agreed. Any follow up supporting independent dyno runs?

Oh, and my numbers were on 93 octane.

My drivetrain loss was a quite accurate 14 percent as measured on the stock GTO.

Figure the NASCAR guys make 800 plus on 358 CI, so do what they do. Most of their work is on their 400 plus CFM heads, and they do wind the engines up over 8,000 RPM.
theyve also got a team of people working on r and d
the top end on those heads is crazy, and thats like an inch of valve lift at 9k rpms
with enough money you could make a 600 whp 402, but you could save a lot of time andoney and add some longevity with bigger cubes or boost

I agree that 515-520/5 rwhp is realistic. I've got a 402 i'm building with Tony Mamo's help and even he said I'd be hard pressed to hit 550 rwhp. I'm going with his AFR 230's (worked by Tony a bit), his ported 102, his recommended Johnson lifters, his recommended (new design) Yella Terras, and his custom spec'd cam that's hair larger than an MS4. He said I'd love the motor, but dont expect more than 530.

Sorry man, I dont see 600 rwhp out of yours.

Quick Reply: 600 rwhp 402 anyone have a good idea for a good h/c combo?
