I looked over everything and I believe the cause was theoil pump was old stock pump that wore out. The tolerances on the pump are tight. I was told it was a slp and it was a stock unit. The motor is a 99 not original and no telling the mileage the pump has! I am ordering bearings tomorrow hopefully put it together next weekend.

If the pump was wore out wouldn't the tolerances be loose?

So I went away from the double chain back to a single. The machine shop said the chain ate away at the cover and likely the cause of the oil pump from metal shavings going into the oil. Motor is all back togother. I started installing it yesterday. Should finish up today. I had the block tanked new cam bearings installed. Had the crank polished and speced. New cleverest h series rod and main bearings new gaskets and bolts. Put it togother last weekend. As it sits now the engine and trans are in just not in the motor mounts yet! I ran out of daylight yesterday.

Motor runs and broke it in for approx 30 min at 3k. Changed oil looked good. Took for a ride and oil psi fluctuated then to zero. Through everything I didnt replace the o ring for the pickup. I heard some noises and for some positive thinking it was lifters! Prob not. I am gonna replace the o ring this weekend, hopefully all will be fine. It ran for about 45 secs with 0 psi. Live and learn I will post update once I find out!

Holly ****...this is why I will never buy a modded car. Unless I know for sure how it was put together. You cant rush building an engine, I think that is what is going on here.

Run a single roller chain, you do not need a double, they are just too much of a pain in the *** to mess with. Run the stock hardened GM gears with the C5R single chain, you will never break it, it will not hit anything either.

Make sure you are centering the pump housing over the hub/crank gear too. Do a search.

I definitely went with a single chain and yea all that work and do it again. Well I will pull it and drop the short block off at a machine shop to build it, if when I change the o ring my motor makes bad noises!

Short block is at the machine shop. I am frustrated with this car but I will have a quality motor once I get it back.
