Funny after I realized it was a iron block motor I was going to suggest its most likey bottom trouble but I didn't want to discourage you. You may get away with just putting a rod and piston in.
I've done it many times, the noise isn't the bearing. Its the rod slapping the inside of the piston back and forth.

Here's some more obvious carnage.

Wow, that's actually impressive! How does the crank and cyl wall look?

Well the crank actually looks fine. You can see a shiny area where it looks like it was polished a bit, but there's no sigfinicant material missing. The cylinder wall looks fine too. Cross hatching is still there, and no lip at the top. I think this thing will run well once its patched up.

Sorry I didn't update for a while, I guess I've been too busy enjoying my truck!

Yep, it's up and running smooth. I got a replacement piston and rod through a friend for $25. All said and done, I think it cost around $90 and a lot of man hours for me to fix this little problem.

Great job bud, I was just reading through the the thread to see what the verdict was. Then you showed those pics and I said "Damn, never would have guessed that one", but then, a hydrolock and do some funny **** to a motor.

Good find, great thread, and great job pvfjr. Glad you were able to sort it all out and not break the bank, always a plus.
