Default Just Discovered New 243 Heads!!

I dont know if this has been covered, but I have a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 5.3 Liter and today I was looking to see if I needed to change the oil already and I found the 243 stamp on the head!! There isnt another version of 243's out there are there? And if this is the same 243 that everyone looks for, is this the new vehicle to be looking for at the junk yard??

Yup, 243's and 799's have been on truck motors for years now.

Good deal, I guess Im slow on this game. At the track in San Antonio in february, SDPC said that GM stopped making 243's, I guess this is proof they were wrong. Thanks for the update guys

Yes and no, they are the same 243 heads, but just like the GTOs they don't have the light weight valves, but the valves can be swapped out

My 2009 Silverado 5.3 has them as well. Don't remember the year, but there was a hp bump advertised by GM on the motor. The heads played a major role in this increase.

They are 243s but not the most sought after 243s that have the sodium filled valves. Only the c5zo6 and 04-05 cts-v had the sodium filled valves.

Default 243 Heads

243 Heads came out on the new body style 2007 Silverado/Sierra Trucks. The HP on the new generation engines went from 295 up to 315.

Hey guys I've got a 2007 suburban 2500 6.0 liter. I have no idea what heads are on there I gotta check, but would I see any benefit to putting 799 or 243 heads on here? I'm looking for more power this thing tows like a dog.

Is there a way to tell which 243 mine is?

You probably have 317 heads, they flow similar to 243/799 castings, but have larger combustion chambers. 243/799s would give you a nice bump in compression. If you have the LQ4 motor, 243s should raise to around 10:5, LQ9 would be around 11:1

All 243 heads are the same casting and 799's are nearly identical also. The only 243's that have the light weight hollow intake and sodium filled exhaust valves are one's that came on LS6 motors. All of this info is readily available so stop asking about it and just look it up.

How would you tell if you didn't know the origin of the heads?

That is new body style so its a L76 .... the heads will be L92 just look for the following casting numbers 2716 , 5364 or 823. Don't change the heads something else is wrong, it should pull strong.

Pull strong as compared to what? My trailer/race car is 8000 lbs and going up hills I need to bury my foot just to maintain speed. What I'd really like to do is put a diesel in this thing. It's pathetic that nobody makes a diesel suv these days.

I don't get why GM dint offer the dura max in the suburbans, that would be a sweet rig if they would have! Hopefully soon they will bring the 4.6 duramax proto back to testing and offer it in suburbans and 1/2 ton trucks and Tahoe!
