$200 for LM4 SB, worth it?
I found a 100k mile LM4 shortblock about an hour out of town, and he is asking $200 for it. It seems to be in pretty decent shape from the pictures. If its worth a look see, Ill check to see if I can still see the cross hatch and that the rotating assembly moves freely this weekend.
I dont have a chassis picked out but I figured I can get a motor thats a step in the right direction.

if you are changing out another 5.3 or 4.8 yea its worth it. But if your doing a motor swap in an older car or truck id say no. The rest of the parts that it takes to make a motor swap complete will drive the price way higher when you have to buy everything separate. Remember the gaskets, seals, bolts are not cheap for these engines. I have found several 5.3 complete pullouts from 500 to 700 bucks

I was planning on replacing most of the gaskets on whatever engine I got regardless so there isnt any savings there. Im planning on using 243s, an off the shelf cam and LS6 manifold to get me started. Plus I would need to use fbody accessories so I would end up with a pile of parts that I may or may not be able to sell.

i bought my 100k l59 5.3 with harness and computer for 500. depends on if u want to run stock computer and stuff. like 726.0 chevelle said u will spend alot ,trying to complete that motor if u dont have all parts, TB, fuel rails , map , tps, steam tubes, coil packs etc theres alot of little stuff that will nickel and dime u to death. from what i have seen coil packs are around 125$ used . manifolds are around 75$ used.(if ur going to use them), valve covers, rocker arms . i would just find a complete motor. sure ur going to not use some of the stuff. but it will not nickel and dime u to death

Yeah, I'd get a complete takeout. Like stated before getting all the little odds and ends will nickel and dime you to death. With a takeout, there will be pieces you don't need but someone out there will need those pieces. You can sell the parts you don't want to help buy the new parts or give them away.
