im done building the motor for my S10 project but all this talk about cracked castech heads has me worried. the 5.3L came from an 05 (L59) avalanche. I threw in a comp 228r with PAC 1218s, new lifters, harned 7.4- .80wall pushrods ect. BUT my heads did'nt *knock on wood* have any cracks around the oil drainage holes ect, they were good basically. on craigslist today i happened to stumble upon some 799 heads brand spanking new. for $400. would it be worth while swapping these heads over with a nice simple port and polish job ? or just leave it be? and how much would they need to be milled to obtain my stock compression or more? about .30?
