LS6 Super Stroker article in Super Chevy
Thanks for the nice words about the engine. I won't even get into the dyno chart, suffice it to say Primedia is going to make it up to me. I had a feeling when all of you saw it, someone would notice the HP/TQ not crossing correctly and spot it for a bad chart. I was impressed the first post nailed it!
We did have trouble chassis-dynoing the engine in the '32. By 3,600 RPM, the car was so twisted over so far it was jamming the right-rear tire in to the body, tearing up the paint and nearly going through the steel body.
We got to 370 RWHP, but the car was spinning the tires on the dyno and jumping side-to-side. We actually broke one rear strap when the car squatted so hard the exhaust touched the strap. The car tried to leave the building, but thankfully no harm was done. As it is a $250K car, I was "asked" to stop.
All this on a dyno that is setup to tune SCORE buggies and trucks. While the buggies are lighter than the roadster, the torque at that weight is what was causing the problem. As a result, we are going to be moving to an engine dyno at Westech in the next couple of months (their schedule is jammed).
On another note, I have always maintained that the stack injection was created for looks not performance. We recently dynoed the same car with a crate LS1 and the stack injection, no other mods. It got 317 RWHP, so I was pretty happy about that.
Oh, BTW, yes those are AFR's on the cover. The good people at AFR (thanks Tony and Dave K) got the heads to me for the shoot. Unfortunately I had to send them back the next day, as they were the only set on the planet.
