The 5.3L can only go to 3.905" bore right?

That's one of the reasons I like the LS1 punched out. For 1) it's much lighter than the LSX block or 6L variant, but can be taken out to 4.155" or 4.185" bore, 2) it's really strong, and 3) it's not that expensive compared to using my block and machining it... it's about equivalent to buying an LS2/3 block and machining that.

For $2250 ERL does the work for the standard package ductile iron sleeves, all the machining, and installs ARP Main Studs. The machine work locally just to get my block ready was $1000 with standard GM studs. So it's just $1000 more to go from a 383 to a 443 since the rotating assembly is more or less the same price. It would be cheaper than using the LS2/3 block as well and wouldn't require any of the Gen 4 conversion parts. I just would have to ship the block out. The SuperDeck package is 2900 and allows for more stroke...

The book I have doesn't specify but only says "iron" blocks can be punched out to 4.00'' bore, but I think people have gone bigger after sonic testing..

Im at 3.906 after averaging all 8 cylinder bores from the paperwork, which leaves me with .006 piston to wall clearance..

yeah your breakdown of the prices makes a lot of sense.. I'd love to have an ERL block, I'm already planning my next build in my head.. pipe dream status!!

I would do that... Otherwise LS3 is most economical of the 400+ ci motors. It's roughly the same price as LS2 and much cheaper than the LS7 and will allow the use of really good heads. 6L block would be cheaper and could be punched out to 4.060" if it sonic clears...

you don't need the old cam plate, the new cam plate came out with recessed bolts to clear after market timing sprockets... that's it, it has nothing to do with the TFS damper bracket.

the TFS bracket comes with its own button head bolts that sandwich the bracket over the cam plate so you don't have to use the bottom 3 bolts that come with the cam plate no matter what plate you go with..

all it comes down to is will that very top cam plate bolt clear the timing sprocket that you are running, the recessed bolts will give you 1/4'' more clearance so its better..
