Default cam for a truck?

I picked up a low mileage 6.0 to replace the high mileage 6.0 in my 05 2500hd 4wd. Before dropping the new motor in I want to swap cam, replace valve springs and upgrade the rockers. What would be a good cam to put in? I don't want to fly cut the pistons either. Looking to maximize the power for my daily driver that I tow with a few times a month. Thanks in advance...

When you say "upgrade the rockers" I hope you don't mean aftermarket rockers. For the vast majority of setups stock rockers with a trunnion upgrade are the preferred choice. Aftermarket stuff is heavier making the valvetrain harder to control. That shouldn't be an issue with a mild truck cam, but the point is the stock rockers don't need to be replaced.

What gears, tire size, and are you considering a stall?

yes, trunion upgrade, not complete rockers.

Currently have 245/75/16's, 4.10 gear and stock converter. I may put on bigger tires at some point down the road and a programmer. I have a cold air intake and cat back exhaust now, but everything else will remain stock

If "a programmer" at some point down the road is even a consideration then I would leave the truck alone because you are likely to screw it up.

An aftermarket cam requires custom reprogramming immediately period. If you think otherwise don't mess with the engine atall.

+1

to the OP, have someone do a custom tune for you when you do the cam and/or heads swap.

Take a look at the Lunati #20540710(212/218 113lsa+4), should give you a nice bump in hp&trq for towing, also look at the Cam Motion #C33-637( 212/218,112lsa+4)

The motor won't be going in the truck right away, so down the road when it does, it will be tuned. Right now I'm working on getting the motor ready.

For a heavy DD 4x4 truck that will also see some towing this is what I'd go with, or at least keep it close to this size. Crane and Comp Cams also offer several cams of similar size. Now if you truck was just a weekend fun truck not towing I'd go bigger.

I love the 224/228 0.566/0.571 115+1 cam in my heavy 4x4. This was custom spec'd for my stroker engine with AFR heads and a FAST LSXRT intake, so I don't know how ideal it would be in your engine.

If you are keeping the rest of your engine stock, I would pick an off-the-shelf grind using the selection criteria on Comp's website.
