Default Help me with Heads/Cam setup! :)

Hi Everyone! I'm finally making the move and trying to get a good H/C package setup along with longtubes, intake manifold, etc.

I've been in contact with Texas Speed and they sent me a quote and everything for parts n what not, but I wanted to ask for everyone's opinion on this as well.

I've been mainly looking at their Stage 1 & Stage 2.5 H/C package along with a set of their LTs, ORY, and all the gaskets, oil pump, etc that comes with it.
-They also said a Torque Converter would benefit me and added the Yank Super Stock 3200 on there for me.

This is going on a mainly street vehicle, that is also mainly stock. (128k miles).
My main questions are:
-Stage 1 or Stage 2.5 H/C?
-TSP 1 3/4 or 1 7/8?
-Should I go with an LS6/ported TB or FAST 92/92?

Thoughts/Suggestions?

Are we talking LS6 heads here or what? The 1 7/8 headers should flow a tad better but my guess is that it's extremely minimal. The FAST will definitely out flow the LS6, but again is it worth the price...only you can answer that Also what cam are you looking at?

So this is their Stage 1 package:

This is their Stage 2.5 package:

I'm sorry I'm really new to Heads & Cams... >.<

No problem man! I'm kind of new to the LS as well, but i'm learning fast Okay if it were me i'd go with option 2 out of the ones listed, and with a slightly more aggressive cam than the 220R that's listed....but that's just me! Really it boils down to this: How much are you willing to spend, and what are you expectations in terms of power and drivability? Is it a daily driver? How many miles a year is it driven? Etc....see where i'm going here

I say go with the stage 2.5 imo. Ive been looking at that exact package for my GTO as of late. The way I figure, your going to be spending a decent chunk either way. Might as well spend a little more and go with the bigger kit. Plus, im sure you wont regret it once its done.

If youre going H/C, get a FAST if you can afford it. Guys are still stuck 10 years in the past (my tuner included) and swear an LS6 is keeping up with a FAST until 400rwhp. Also that stall is too small. Get a 3600 minimum. I have a Yank PT 4000 in my GTO, love it.

Wow, I never met anyone that thought that. There is plenty of evidence showing gains from a FAST on a stock engine. The problem is the FAST intake, Rails, TB, bigger MAF, lid combo is just insanely expensive. I just did H/C (no results yet but soon) and I went with POTZ ported TB and MAF for now. If I get the cash in the future or run across a smoking deal I'll spring for the FAST setup. All the hard work is done and then it would just be a touch up tune.

In short yes the 2.5 ls6 heads are worth it. Without getting into crazy semantics and technical scenarios. You want the best heads you can afford. The cam selection is also important but the heads are where the money is at. Having the best cam in the world wont mean **** if it cant get the air flow.

You can have the 2 cars one with stock heads are a donkey dick cam and another with a mid size cam but with good heads. And I guarantee the one with heads will wipe the floor with the latter one. With that said since you are doing H/C or even on a stock car you will benefit from a fast intake. Especially on a combo like you're putting together a 92/92 setup will be worth 30whp give or take.

Also the ss3200 stall is a little on the tiny said even for a stock car. With your setup since it will be a street car I would go with something in the 3600-4000 range. Yank, FTI, and Circle D all make good converters. I am partial to fti as they are local to me and Greg is a great guy and will always custom build your stall.

They offer a 3800 converter which should be a nice middle ground between the 3600 and 4000. I would oreder the h/c from TSP but talk with one of the companies about a converter it will probably be cheaper and your converter will be custom specd.

Oh and as a last thing always go with 1-7/8" headers. There are threads on them where people even gain on a stock ls1. They lose nothing down low and will gain up top even more so with H/C
