Budget 5.3 build for swap
Hello all im currently swapping my 04 mustang to lsx and i already purchased my engine a 5.3 from a 99 1500 silverado and a built 4l60e. Im looking to build this motor to run the 8th mile and my goal is 7.0s on nitrous in this car. Car will still be a street car not a race car looking for the best way to get it there.
Things purchased so far:
Swap k member
engine
trans
ls1 wiring harness
ls1 intake manifold and injectors
the motor has a good deal of miles on it 160k only signs are alot of carbon like buildup in intake ports of heads (ill probably pull them and get them cleaned up and checked before it goes in car. Thanks for all your help and advice

If you still have the 5.3 intake and only if you have the clearance for it under the hood, I'd stay with that as it would give you better flow than the LS1 intake. As far as the heads go, what stamp # are on them, that should help some of the other techs on here with what you may choose to do. Also, a price as to how much you are willing to spend on said project stang.
Best of luck with it though, those 5.3's are bullit proof.

Thats a good goal. If you can swing it id do a LS6 cam swap along with lifters, springs, timing chain and an oil pump. The 5.3s pick up a good amount with the cam swap, and its still an OE cam so it will be streetable. And changing out the pump/chain will add some longevity.
