Default Valve Springs for New Cam

I recently had a valve spring failure after installing the new cam from Brute Speed. The specs on the cam are as follows:

Dur. @ .050: 232 in. 240 ex.
Lift .595 in. .608 ex.
LSA 115

The springs that failed were the AFR 8019 upgrades for the AFR 205 heads. I have a set of replacement 8019's new in the box, but am hesitant to reinstall a set of springs that may fail again.

Any suggestions on any other brands or spring specs I should look for?

Thanks

AFR 8019s are about as good as you're going to get. Makes me think something else was at play - incorrect pushrod length, loose rocker, incorrect wipe pattern/valvetrain geometry. If the cam had a different base circle from the previous cam, all of those things have to be checked and adjusted.

This is the first that I have heard of an 8019 spring breaking with our camshaft. I can see why you would be hesitant to install another set of the same springs, but a lot of people are running this same combination. Bob

Actually (6) springs all together are broken. #2 intake and exhaust, #5 intake and exhaust, and #7 intake and exhaust. #7 exhaust was the worst. It appears that when the spring broke something got wedged sideways between the retainer and the head and kept the spring from being compressed. This caused the Comp Pro Mag rocker to break around the rocker shaft and the 7.400" x 5/16" Hi-Tech push rod to bend. I'll be pulling the heads for a full inspection. I just want to try to avoid this in the future and want to make sure I have the right parts for the application.

Thanks for the input on the valve springs. Looking back, I placed my order for the AFR 205's before they were actually available. I swear I bought the 8019 upgrade with the heads. Maybe I only had the 8017's. Would the 8017's be more likely to fail with my cam?

The 8019's should have a red stripe, if they don't, then they're probably not 8019 springs.

I have the exact same springs as the 8019 for $129 shipped and they should drop in with your existing components. http://www.briantooleyracing.com/650...l-springs.html
