Default Valves: Go with OEM or OEM-"equivalent"

There's a significant disparity between prices with OEM valves and OEM-equivalents. Is it worthy to spend the dough or would the cheaper ones suffice?

GMPartsDirect.com (OEM's)
Intake Valve: $15.67
Exhaust Valve: $14.94
Total: $244.88

RockAuto.com (Brand: Sealed Power)
Intake Valve: $4.53
Exhaust Valve: $7.86
Total: $99.12

See if there is a way to get the valves priced as a set rather than individually. I was once quoted nearly $400 for LS7 lifters because the parts guy priced them individually.

Good idea - didn't think about that. I checked and can't find a price for the set. I'm not sure if they sell them as a set or not.

GM valves are much better quality than aftermarket. Get them if you can.

someone out there is throwing out OEM valves because they blindly believe they need bigger. meaning someone has some laying around.

No, that's not really true. There are plenty of problems with the OEM valves, like the tips cracking for example. The aftermarket makes valves better suited to take the abuse of more demanding engine combinations.

Hmmm. Decisions, decisions. I think I would rather take that $240 and get some Manley's instead.

If anyone could find me a part number for a set of valves, that would be greatly appreciated.

That's true. Inconel exhaust for turbos, Ti or hollow-stem intake for use with large valves, etc. Based on QC tho, the GM valves are tough to beat.

If you want a set of stock replacement that aren't half bad, the Manley Racemaster work well, and may be slightly lighter. I don't think they are any cheaper.

I wanted inconel for my build, richard and dave said it wasnt needed... no turbo car that drives on the street needs inconel valves were there exact words... plus they are a 2 piece valve by nature and are not as durable as a 1 piece valve is as far as long term abuse goes..

Interesting. Yeah, for a street car a one-piece stainless is all you need unless you're running 30 PSI with very high EGT.

So what are these 1-piece stainless steel valves you are referring to?

Ok Richard finally emailed me with:

"We only install the parts we sell. He can go straight to our supplier. We use SI Valves and REV valves. You can find links to them from our links page on our website. The part numbers are as follows: 2.02" intake SL1170, 1.57" exhaust SL1169. Let me kow if you have any trouble Chris."
