Default rocker re-installation question

so i'm about to unbolt the rockers so i can check out the pushrods to see if any of them are bent...just gonna unbolt the rockers and nothing else for right now....when i go to reinstall them, does it matter what position the pistons are in? is there going to be too much tension on the ones that are stuck in the open position for me to be able to reinstall them without turning the crank over by hand?

You don't want to be up on a lobe when torqueing the rockers back down... it will compress the spring and skew the torque numbers.

Copy and pasted from an earlier post. I just did this a couple days ago as well.

Per the service manual.... and the only way I have ever done it.

6. Rotate the crankshaft until the number one piston is at top dead center (TDC) of the compression stroke. In this position, cylinder number one rocker arms will be off lobe lift, and the crankshaft sprocket key will be at the 1:30 position. The engine firing order is 1,8,7,2,6,5,4,3. Cylinders 1,3,5, and 7 are left bank. Cylinders 2,4,6, and 8 are right bank.

7. With the engine in the number one firing position, tighten the following valve rocker arm bolts: Tighten

.....(1) Tighten the exhaust valve rocker arm bolts 1,2,7, and 8 to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
.....(2) Tighten the intake valve rocker arm bolts 1,3,4, and 5 to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

8. Rotate the crankshaft 360 degrees.
9. Tighten the following valve rocker arm bolts: Tighten

.....(1) Tighten the exhaust valve rocker arm bolts 3,4,5, and 6 to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
.....(2) Tighten the intake valve rocker arm bolts 2,6,7, and 8 to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

I use the exhaust opening/intake closing method..basically turn the crank over with a big 1/2" break bar and watch the rockers for the particular cylinder I am on open and close. Torque to 22lbs. When exhaust rocker is starting to move open, the intake should be closed/closing and on the base circle of the cam, do the same for torquing the exhaust rocker, just watch the intake rocker start to open. When the valve is closed there should be a little side to side play in the rocker.
