Default Oil pump going out?!

Hello fellow ls owner ,hopefully you guys can help me out.

Car is my 98 camaro z28 ls1 181,xxx on her
I run mobile 1 10w30.
Oil pressure is good cold 50-55 hot 35 40..
Weeks ago i ran my car in the 1/4 assuming everything was good only had old plugs..got to run it 2 timea the second run when i was rolling to park it i noticed oil pressure droped and when going to park droped to 0.and it started knocking.turned it off fast..after thinking and thinking what mabe whent bad i turned it on approx 5 mins passed se statted and noise went away and pressure came back to 40..while running it preasure was at 60..
In my opinion the oil pump is going out.since its happened i have been daily driving the car.no problems what so ever not yet.been in the hottest weather in traffic and no problems..
Im not sure if oil is to thin or what?
Once again car drives very good good oil preasure.
Car does not burn oil nor smoke

Any inputs would be greatly appriciate it..

I had a problem with mine, the pressure relief valve in the oil pump stuck open, so it wouldnt build any pressure, It only took once to take out my bearings. I drove it a couple hundred more miles and then rebuilt it. My oil pressure kept getting worse. I would put a new pump in it, its a pretty simple job.

I have never heard of a varnish problem. Normally the gears dont break either and if they didnt, you would have oil pressure now. Cut your filter apart and see whats in it as well on your drain plug.

If that was the case you should be able to pull a valve cover and check if there is any build up in the heads.

This is exactly what they do when the oil pump relief valve gets sticky.

Upon opening the relief valve during high rpm and high pressure, the valve sticks open. Then when lower rpms are reached, it is loosing pressure out of the stuck relief valve. Sometimes shutting off and cooling down is enough to unstick it as your did. I would get a new pump on it asap.

If I were You I would seriously consider the pump I believe it's Schumaker racing has 4 $150 . The relief valve is a ball bearing instead of a piston so it really can't get stuck.
