Unhappy Too Slow 13.8 Why?

ok so I bought a 1998 Z28 A4 I did a lil work to it MSD wires NGK plugs SEE SIG for the rest and im running super slow @ 13.8 and they consecutively got worse 13.9 14.0 & 14.1 so I looked down and I was running hot at about 265 Degrees.. a couple things I figured out is the EGR tubes are wide open No block off plates, the Radiator looks all brown and gunky inside! so im getting that all fixed and I think the car may be in need of a Tune? also after the car got hot the 2nd to 3rd Shift would Lag pretty bad car cooled off and shifted just fine... plus im pretty sure the last owner had some work done and just pulled the stuff off and left it to that tune not sure though.. any thoughts and has anyone seen this happen before and what was the Issue ? THANKS GUYS

265? YIKES..flush the cooling system and get a cooler T-stat and what ever tuning changes that need to be done to get the fan on earlier. A set of drag radials, take everything out of the trunk. Sounds like there's lot's of room for improvement before you start modding your motor, don't be so concerned with ET as MPH will tell you more.

Well, you just mentioned a ton of problems. Depending on where that EGR is disconnected, that could be causing a vacuum leak. I think you need to get your car up to tip top shape maintenance wise before you start racing it.

Ordered the Tstat, Trans Cooler, Block Off plates and I'm having the Radiator Flushed so that should take care of the Hot Issue? And for my Trap Speeds they also got worse 99.98, 98.67, 97.45, 96.78 so something was definitely Wrong... My 60ft's were also pretty bad at 2.100, 2.140, 2.178, 2.198??? I've had alot of cars LS1 not being one of them and that's never happen to me Everything to get worse every Run?

I am getting everything in order now! And they did the Pacesetter LT's Install No Egr and whatever's open due to the install is open? Do you think that would also make it Slower or is it just my Temp Issue??

Deal with those issues and then throw a damm converter in it if your worried about ets. A mail order tune with either increased line pressure or a shift kit will help as well.

What were you expecting??? Bone stock 1998 Z28 with probably over 100K miles? 13.8 is about right where it should be. A little slower or quicker depending on tires and driver, but not by that much. You won't be in the 12s if that's what you're thinking.

So far people have mentioned some maintenance stuff but some mods too. I think you should JUST do maint stuff and a lot of it. If the stuff you mentioned is bad then there's more bad you haven't found yet. Get the flush, replace the drive belt and hoses, change plugs, wires, all fluids, all filters, and check the tie rod ends, ball joints, etc. Your car sounds like it's had really poor care until now. Get it running right stock, do some runs to see where you are and then start the mods. This plan, imho, will keep you running and not replaceing what broke every time you go out. My 2 cents and rant over.

Well yeah If it was stock but it's not! Pacesetter LT's, Lid, Magnaflow CB, ORY, MSD wires, NGK Plugs.... That's not a 13.8 car

You may not have that kind of cash, but that sounds like a good deal to me if theyre installing the converter too.

Is there any DTC's stored in the computer?

Those mods don't put you in the 12s...I don't even consider plugs and wires "mods"....

13.8 is not something to be alarmed about.....Is that a perfect run? Is the car in perfect shape? Probably not. Have a good driver, Put some slicks on the car, hook up, get a good 60ft time...You could easily be in the hood of 13.5 or slightly better. All I'm saying...13.8 is about right. I have seen ETs all over place at the track for 4th gens...Mid 13s is about what I have seen on average.

Not all LS1 are equal...What years?

1998 LS1 was the birth of the engine in the Camaro...You can't say your 2002 runs 13.1 and say the same is true for the '98. The 1998 was less hp...later it kept going up.

The heads, cam, intake were different

A revmax stage 3 is all your ever gonna need...450$...a frost mail order tune is 150$...
An ls6 intake for 300$ would help alot as well.
But a stall alone will give you the best net.

Just for the record, we have (2) locals on stock stalls that went 12.4@111 with an LS6 intake/full exhaust only...one was tuned the other was not...
