Best Oil?
Just wondering what the opinion is on the best oil. I have been using Havoline for some time. An amatuer race team in my area started using Havoline and said that they saw the least amount of wear in the race motor while using it. Any opinions?

Might wanna check out some posts by "patman". He does a lot of oil analysis stuff, etc..
but just by reading a few of his posts, amsoil/redliine 5w30 or 10w30 and Mobil1's European 0w40 oil does pretty well in the ls1's.
According to him, ls1's like a heavy 30 or a light 40 weight.. I'm sure someone will chime in for further info.

Go to bobistheoilgouy.com
That site is awesome and I have learned quite a bit about oil. The members on that board are very knowledgable. Its also a bonus that LS1 engines are a much discussed topic. After investigating you wont have any trouble choosing the right oil for your engine.

I am not really into the whole synthetic craze. My mechanic told me that as far as he is concerned there is not need for synthetics at this point. I will check out the redline though!

I would be leary of what any "mechanics" reccomend about oil. Most have no real physical basis on what they believe other than old wives tales. Learn for yourself.
BOBISTHEOILGUY.COM will tell you the FACTS on oil and which one will work best for your vehicle. I perform oil analysis on my engine and get hard evidence on the wear of my engine and would suggest all others to do so also!
